Undaunted Lopez Book Review

The book Undaunted the Lopez Legacy by Raul Rodrigo was launched last November 22, 2010. It is about the Lopez generations from 1800 to 2010.  The book was a tribute to the old Lopezes who worked hard to pass on an admirable family legacy to the younger generations. It’s full of photos that date back from the early 1800’s to present. The Undaunted Book was published to show people how the Lopez clan from Iloilo grew from a small business to one of the Philippines’ largest family owned company.  The book is full of photos and stories that took me like I was really there in the very moment it happened.

Undaunted means courageous and I think the author, Raul Rodrigo, could not pick a better title for the book because the Lopezes showed resolute courage when they faced their detractors and slowly overcame each of them. I have known the Lopezes from afar but when I read the book, I have renewed respect for each of the Lopez leaders.

The book also features the Lopezes venture to Sugarcane, Electrical Power (Meralco), Print Publication (Manila Chronicle), Television Broadcasting (ABSCBN) including a holding company, Benpres Holdings.
The older Lopezes also entered into politics which resulted to a tragic wage of life. Former Governor Benito Lopez was shot dead by his political rival and years later the then Vice President Fernando Lopez was stripped off of his power during the Marcos regime. The Lopezes fought corruption resulting to being tagged as the favourite pet hate of several past presidents, their family members were also sent to jail during martial law but the Lopezes didn’t falter and continued to express freedom and integrity to fight injustices by forms of writings (el tiempo publication).

Undaunted showed me the Lopezes family values that were extraordinary and truly admirable. My only hope is that Filipino families may adapt even the littlest part of the Lopezes family value. Not only did the older Lopezes instilled integrity, honor and patriotism to all of their sons and daughters  but also to be just and fair to all of their employees. This I think, is the main reason why the Lopezes  became leaders of various industries and biggest corporations here in the Philippines. The entrepreneurial spirit and care for the Filipino people is ever present in each of the Lopez Group of Companies.

I hope you can read a copy of Undaunted. And be inspired of the values that you will learn from each page. You may order a copy from the Lopez Museum.
