One Project, One Team, You’re It Philippine Version!

You’ve seen what other countries have done to showcase the inspiration Converse brings to their life and their world of art, now it’s the Philippines turn to show what Converse inspires them to create for its You’re It campaign!
A team composed of a curator, MeAn Venturina-Bulanadi, and three artists considered masters of their respective disciplines, Buen Calubayan (interdisciplinary artist), J. Pacena II (multimedia artist) and Mark Ramsel Salvatus (cross-disciplinary artist), all proud to have hailed from the University of Sto. Tomas College of Fine Arts and Design, come together to create what they dubbed as “Speaceies”.
With lights on, it’s a sight to behold at night!
At first glance, you’ll have to wonder what “Speaceies” means. It’s actually a play of words involving the terms “peace” and “species” as these serve the core of their inspiration. Using their combined imagination and creativity to conceptualize, they’ve produced something quite unusual and symbolic at the same time.
Each section has been given utmost thought, from the old shoes piled on top of the others, the revolving globe made of outsoles, the integration of twigs and real and growing grass, and the many creatures that had been born out of shoes – some somewhat recognizable, others downright alien in nature – that populate a world defined using Converse artistry. If you haven’t yet figured it out, it’s the artists’ interpretation of the cycle of life, from birth to death and the humans close association and affinity for nature. It is a scene that has been geared towards the perennial question of “Where did we come from and where we are going?”
And what’s great about this work of art? It’s built on wheels ready to roam the streets of the metropolis and touch you with its core message of peace among different species! And don’t forget to get your cameras at the ready and your twitter accounts hooked on Converse’s very own twitter account (www.twitter.com/converseph) and get a chance to win a Converse goodie bag. Rocking Minimalist!
Converse’s association with almost all forms of art has been established for a long time, and to this day, Converse continues to be part of the music scene, immortalizing the greatest and best the music industry has to offer. Celebrate Converse and music together with the season’s featured artist – The Ramones!
They’ve started a trend, released albums left and right, toured here and there, and eventually said goodbye to the world, but what they left behind lives on far more than they expected when they formed The Ramones in the 70s!
Though they didn’t become commercially successful, The Ramones made up for being the band many punk acts, and even hard metal acts, strive to become musically. Their fast-paced style and songs that are barely two minutes long was a breath of fresh air on the overly saturated ballad and pop scene of the time.

But what made them a tough act to follow? It’s their distinct style that goes beyond what other bands were doing. Creating and developing their unique sound, their performance an unforgettable experience, and their fashion style… minimal. And yet, the uniformity of their looks and their short sets made an impression on many bands that followed after like The Clash.
Converse pays tribute to this phenomenal band this season with The Ramones very own Music Collaboration release! Gaining inspiration from their minimalist lifestyle with that unfathomable edgy appeal, Converse had developed designs fans of the band will definitely find appealing.
Classic canvas chucks gained another patch featuring The Ramones Hey Ho Let’s Go logo! Available in Chuck Taylor signature black and this season’s amber gold for P 2,950, the shoes come with two laces to let you customize the look you’re going for!
Simplicity and that adorable distressed look come together for a grungy pair with The Ramones logo stamped on the side. Done up in parchment, this Chuck Taylor kick is oozing with retro appeal at P 2,950 a pair.
Repeat logo prints do have that certain charm; it definitely deserves a second glance. Though it may seem unlike the minimalist Ramones, but it is simple enough that a member of the band might have rocked it during their heyday for P 2,950.
The cherry on top of this collection is the ultra-stylish distressed leather! Made with premium leather in signature Chuck Taylor silhouette and Converse attention to detail, this particular pair is enough to make a fan salivate and most likely will soon be part of The Ramones Museum. Achieved punk perfection for P 4,550!
