Kia reveals name of all-new luxury sedan

Kia Motors Corporation unveiled the first official picture and overseas market name of the production version of its KND-5 concept car. Kia Cadenza is Kia’s all-new sedan designed to satisfy drivers’ desire for refinement, safety and emotional satisfaction by creating ‘ideal’ driving conditions.

The name is derived from an Italian musical term used to describe an elaborate, ornamental flourish for a concerto or aria. It perfectly symbolizes the dynamic sedan’s striking design philosophy and upscale image.

Soon-Nam Lee, Director of the Overseas Marketing Group, Kia Motors Corporation, said, “Cadenza will showcase the continuing evolution in Kia’s striking design language through the blend of light and lines. It will also present a new concept in luxury sedans in terms of performance and technology.”

Sporty and sleek in appearance, Cadenza features a bold headlamp design with attention-grabbing LED surrounds and an athletic character line. The prominent front grille and stylish taillights emphasize the car’s high-tech feel and are a continuing expression of Kia's dramatic design DNA.

Inside, the futuristic ‘floating’ dashboard highlights Kia’s uniquely innovative design approach. The welcome system turns on the exterior puddle and interior lights to ‘greet’ the car owner, while the interior mood lighting strip, which runs along the dashboard to the door trim, creates a warm atmosphere within the vehicle.

Kia Cadenza’s dynamic design and driving performance, allied with a raft of competitive passenger-friendly high-tech features, will make it a leader in the large, luxury sedan market segment.

New technologies on Cadenza will include a heated steering wheel (for winter driving in cold markets), powered extendable seat cushions (for extra thigh support), automatic defogging of the windshield and ventilated front seats (for cool comfort in hot markets).

The stylish luxury sedan will be called ‘Cadenza’ in markets outside of Korea and make its overseas premiere at the Saudi Arabia, Kuwait and Dubai international motor shows, towards the end of the year.

World premiere for all-new Kia Sportage at Geneva
A shift in design direction for the popular SUV

The all-new Kia Sportage crossover marked a dramatic shift in design direction for the brand’s popular SUV when it made its world premiere at the Geneva Motor Show on 2 March.

Embodying Kia’s newfound visual dynamism, the new Sportage is a fresh, bold, athletic and sporty design that successfully blends the key features of an SUV - the commanding driving position and heightened sense of security and raised ground clearance - and envelopes them in a sleek and urban-friendly design with global appeal.

Longer, lower and wider than the previous generation model, the new Sportage will offer more space for people and cargo, with an improved ride quality thanks to a longer wheelbase.

The all-new Sportage crossover will be available at Kia dealerships around the world later this year, with a range of highly competitive diesel and gasoline engines.

With a new bodyshell, new engines and fresh, bold styling that introduces a new kind of dynamic aesthetic, the latest Kia Sportage is an urban-friendly crossover for today’s families - consuming less fuel and emitting less CO2.

Under the direction of Chief Design Officer, Peter Schreyer, the Kia design teams have created a third-generation Sportage incorporating Kia’s new design DNA and many features from the 2007 Kia Kue concept car.

The 4.4-metre long new Sportage is sleeker and lighter than the previous model, with an aerodynamic drag figure of Cd 0.37 (down from 0.40) and a significant weight loss of 91 kg compared with the previous model - enhancing fuel eco-nomy and refinement.

When the full range of new Sportage models is ‘on sale’ later this year, it will be available (depending on country) with four engines (two petrol and two diesel, covering a 115 ps to 163 ps power spread), 6-speed manual and automatic transmissions and two-wheel or all-wheel drive.
