The hostage taking last August 23, 2010 of 23 Hong Kong Tourist and 3 filipinos was really horrible. The rebel is Ex Police Senior Inspector or Police Captain Discharged Rolando Mendoza. The 11 hour hostage drama in the hong thai bus killed 8 holiday maker. Other hostages were freed and wounded in this bloody hostage drama.
He was holding an m16 rifle wearing a Police uniform so tourist would expect. He’s doing hes job when he hi-jacked the bus around 10am at Quirino Grandstand, Manila Philippines.
He was shot at head by SWAT Philippine Police Action Force around 8:00PM. When the bus driver escape at 7:55pm saying all of the people inside the bus were dead.
The background of the policeman was outstanding who received a national commendation on 1990’s. But discharged 2008 for some drug related and extortion crime. He was so depressed that he want he’s posisiton and career back. That he jeopardized the whole country and the whole world by killing another 8 people. A policeman should be helping the public seems to be a lawless killer.
So hongkong nationals had a great rally in their country in front of Philippine Consulate General in Hongkong. While most of the Filipinos are too angry to Ex Police Captain Dishaged Rolando Mendoza for such a violent crime done.
So after that incedent happened being broadcast to world media/news. Most of the tourist trip to the Philippines were cancelled according to travel agencies. And a lot of rally in front of Philippine Embassy in Hongkong expressing too much anger to the said incident.
I’m just wondering what come’s inside the head of this Ex Police Official that kills many innocent people? What’s the use/action of SWAT that this hostage lasts for 11 hour? What is the action being given by the public by government officials during this time? The Philippine President Noynoy Aquino aldready told his apology to the HK government and family of the victims.
I give the salute to Jacky Chan for such a good judgment. This moment of crisis we need to be unite and we need a statesman to unify people like him.

in my opinion, let us not totally blame him for what he has done. Yes he did a terrible thing, and jeopardized the good name of the Philippines and its people. But let us also reflect on why he did it. He was disgruntled, felt neglected and believed he was unjustly removed from service. He was not given enough attention in the first place that is why he went to the extreme.
I hope our government will learn from what happened here. They should contemplate on why he suddenly snapped after negotiations with him were going well since the start of the hostage taking. I think the arrest of his brother shouldn't have been done that way. It looked brutal and uncaring. Besides that was the whole point why he snapped. He felt nobody cared.
Also media played a crucial role which may have added fuel to the fire. The role of media covering blow-by-blow accounts of the hostage situation may have outraged and given the hostage taker the upper hand in planning his defense. This shows media does not care what happens, as long as they get the juicy story.
Obviously the police was not well-equipped and properly trained to handle the situation. But they did their best. The only thing is that some of them took pictures of themselves in the crime scene and posed - another showing that they did not care many people died that day.
That is the plague our country is suffering today - NOBODY CARES! Its about time we change our attitude towards others before another incident like this occurs.
u have a point but you think its fair to kill this hostage?..magdalo didn't kill any people during mutiny coop to err their grievances..what im afraid ryt now is the international Philippine relation. everybody has a fault.its like president noynoy working hard to uplift our economy but with this issue. a lot of foreign investors or potential tourist withdraw to visit the country..in that way it can help and can boost our economy..im afraid to ofw threat to this 1st world country like hongkong. other foreign country lost their confidence to us and our security system.
i would say im happy to see in news police officer seizing criminals or 1 billion peso worth of shabu or pirate stuff..military helping calamity and protecting people..Filipino like imagine cup by Microsoft winning world contest..but with this its like putting mud to our own motherland and fellow...
Definitely, what he did was not fair to the hostages. That is why we condemn his act of his killing them. But let us not forget that he is also human and deserves our forgiveness. We all make mistakes, whether mild or grave.
With regards to fairness, he probably did that terrible thing because he felt life isn't fair. It's really hard to imagine a police officer with many awards and recognitions suddenly being stripped of his position and retirement benefits. That really is a hard pill to swallow. And so he probably thought - I will do this 'unfairness' to my hostages because my superiors were 'unfair' to me.
Of course, his way of thinking was wrong, because life from the moment we were born was never fair. (not all people are born rich, intelligent, with social status etc.) We all just try to make out of the blessings God has given us and the problems we face as we live life along the way. He probably never thought that his removal from the force is just a stumbling block he has to go through. It wasn't supposed to be the end of his world.
With regards to our current crisis, in my opinion, I shouldn't worry too much about losing our dignity as a nation. At this point, many Hong Kong people are outraged. But time heals all wounds. As long as we Filipinos learn from our mistakes - whether its our National government, our PNP, the media, or ourselves as citizens, we will definitely move on from this crisis, and become stronger as a nation, like a scorching flame forging the strongest steel. That is only if we admit our own weaknesses and learn from them.

Yes, he could have used other means to solve his problem - not hostage taking. Yes, he could have used media, writing to friends, and organizing a protest. (I don't think the court is effective in solving his problem, we all know our justice system here is that weak) There is that high risk of the hostage-taker being killed in the process that is why his family members rushed to the scene to stop him.
When I saw the news about his grieving family members at his funeral, I was saddened because his life could have been spared if the hostage-taking situation ended peacefully. A lot of people close to him grieved at his funeral.
It is such waste of human life - both for the hostage-taker and the victims. I hope situations like this never happen again.
thanks for you feedback the purpose y i wrote this blog is help people win the game of life. i mean always think winwin..as u may see in iraq and afganistan somalia and poor remote area in mindanao suffer from poverty because they are war freak..they are brave but when both parties are into war other people do business isn't that fair? if you see the movie lord of war by nicholas cage u can realize the picture..the poor is getting poorer..winning in all forms makes a living it educate and feed us..in this case its a loss loss situation..we encounter unfair situation in life..what if he used his skill to contact media, blogger, human rights people, diplomats, foreign country? missionaries? justice? or Interpolice?
